In malaysia, most student will go overseas study. I am not ready,?
I am a malaysian student in college now. Most likely, my parents will send me overseas to study. I don't know what to expect. I never left home before. I will be so sad that I will be leaving behind my family and friends. How do you get through it?

Ask yourself, are you ready to go overseas? If u're not ready, I suggest you to talk to your parents not to let you go. Bring up issues like save money etc. If u're ready, just go! :) I have a friend who arrived in Australia for 2 weeks then went back to Malaysia. This is a waste of money. For me I always wanted to go overseas, anywhere. I don't mind to go alone or with friends, I just wanna go. Thats why it wasn't a problem for me to leave home. ----------- Oh ya I forgot to add, where will u be going? If Australia, u dont have to worry anything. there are millions of malaysians there and it even feels like in Malaysia (except the weather). If ur parents want u to go overseas to experience different things, i suggest not to go to Australia. It feels just like home not much difference

going to oveeseas and study is a blessing and a fortunate things because my parents and most of the parents are not afford to send their children oversea not as u claime . some may even end up working after SPM or STPM and just doing Degree locally , my parents also can;t aford to send my 2 Bro abroad they do their Degree in local University , so u are lucky and fortunate enough.but anyway the decision is yours i can;t force u

Well then maybe this is something you should discuss with your parents. Leaving home is always hard on someone whose close to their family as yourself. But it's also natural & a part of life; can't be with your parents forever! Try going to like local universities that have international courses with a joint programme or something like that. Whatever the outcome may be..one will learn to adapt. There's always emails, webchat anyways to keep family/friends closer;-)

Learn to take care of yourself : washng clothes, some simple cooking...etc. Have you ever joined a uniformed group where there are camping trips ? Boy Scouts, Girl Guides...etc. ..Giat Mara.....train you to be a good citizen and be independent, and have activities like camping.....Take a short trip overseas nearby....at least to experience what you have to do when checking in for your flight, passing through Immigration and Customs....looking for transport to your hotel...etc. You really have to experience this so that you know....go to a hotel restaurant to have a western meal....read books on the customs of the foreign land you will be going..... There is always "culture shock" when going overseas and leaving home, loved ones and friends for the first time to study... You will find people have different ways of doing things, different attitudes....etc. However, you will quickly learn.....and by the 4th year or so.....you would have got used to life overseas and made many friends, and would not like to go home....[especially as regard going back to Malaysia....]

it is good to go overseas study cause different place can learn more from the place where we came from . i just finished my secondary school and never been to study in college due to my financial problem but i planned to study next year but not oversea. as u said, i cant leave my family! people called me "anak manja", cant independant, scary cat etc but i dont care! as long as i can stay together with my family, i dont care so much! BUT u dont have to follow me! it is your life and your choice! good luck!

dude, if you can go, go !! you'll be grateful that you made that leap when you look back 10 years from now. i thought i wasnt ready, but i persisted. also, my parents forced me to persist. now, looking back, I wouldnt change a thing. just make sure that you learn responsibility - learn to cook (eating out is expensive); do your own laundy (its machine wash anyway, so its okay); also spend more time studying (the educational system there is more rigorous and emphasises independent thinking); also, try to stay away from the casinos (your parents work hard to send you overseas to further your education so you can have a better future). and its not like you're leaving your loved ones forever, you'll alwyas have the opportunity to come back during semester breaks; also, you'll make new friends overseas. I did, and it was the most challenging and rewarding experience of my life ! Good luck my friend !!
