As long as Malaysia Public University keep producing low quality engineering student how would Malaysia?
Malaysia manufacture a superb car. Malaysia engineering course is not recognize in other develop country. When our undergraduate study in Australia, USA, UK and etc they were taken aback given that the program structure that they took was completely different from what they study back in Malaysia. To Maltida just look at our (IT, computer science, networking ) undergraduate almost all of them are jobless or doing job that is not related with they work. Malaysia public university still dint have the resources, technology, and expertise to deliver those thing. If our local engineering student are so good why there is so many crack problem when developing highway, building and etc just look at mrr2 highway

Chinese students with straight A's can't get in the university, let alone doing the courses of their choice.Bumi students ,regardless how poor their grades are,are 'selected' to take up medicine, engineering etc. What is Malaysia 's future like?Doctors you can't trust your life with, engineers who don't know half of what they should be doing...Malaysia's reputation has gone down the drain at a much faster speed recent years it's haunting .What a shame.

Malaysia university education its a "screw up" they count by quantity not quality. those good university are in overseas. personal opinion, the way Malaysia lecturer teaching matter is really a big problem thus it contribute poor quality student. there is a saying that goes " there is no such thing as bad students only bad teachers" ----------------------------------------------------------- i wonder one day if these students hand be come a civil engineer will our building be safe? doctor, i m sure i will not go see them even i m sick. engineer, better buy imported product. the 1st answer is right, how the hell those poor grade students got into university and pass the exam? like that "hancur lah" bangsa dan negara ------------------------------------------------------------ we are talking about overall not those very few bright students. if i ran a company/ organization, i ll rather pay more for those overseas student than pay low for local students in my company.

I work with international company and work in international project......and i graduated from Malaysia(UTM to be specific).....low quality? they told me they refuse to hire Australian graduate...i wonder why..maybe too good too be true... Homo : I think its how they sell them self...If you have quality but don't know how to sell yourself, you not going anywhere.... I'm in construction, in every project you learn something new..High rise project not the same with doing bridge...If you willing to learn and hard working, people will see quality in you... After all, work is continuous studies for those who think how little they know rather to those who have good grade and think they knew everything and stop learning.... Good grade is a bonus, but if u can't adapt into working environment, you die.... Big project will come with big responsibilities....and there's not only 1 sub contractor, not 1 problem, and not one mistake...its how you minimize the problem and how you overcome the problem in tight schedule and limited time... Step into the real world and you will know.... dk : they said they hired Australian graduate before, really impressive result but cant do work...(make them think that he bought his degree)....so they find local and no more oversea graduate...

Malaysia Public Universities had been run as a sub government body. Promoted all the Bumi lecture to Professor. Student had been admitted based on color instead of academic. A university shouldn't run as government body, it shall be a place to educate better generation for the people and the country. Matilda, i don't believed that your company don't hire Australian graduate student is base on academic issue. Austrian Civil Engineers are using Austrian Building code, may be this is the main reason since Malaysia are using British Standard, secondly it might due to the need of the project. My self is a American University graduated, i am also a Civil Engineer. Mono the lousy construction might not due to the standard of the local engineer. Normally the construction should be design and construct. During the Construction period, the they might not follow the construction drawing accodingly. Matilda : I believed that you are working in a construction company, not every one with good academic result is good site engineer. Some of them are good when they are in the consultant firm. That what i believe in general.

lol cant u see malaysia is already half dead? now they have to postpone the dream to 2057... our quality professional citizens are already in other countries seeking fair opportunity. There's only rasuah dogs left in msia

now what can we, with our overseas degrees do about it other than moaning...? work hard, set examples, start teaching... but it is true if you don't have the right 'colour' you might not make it to a seat at UM... and it is even more difficult to change a constitutionally anchored mindset...

the Board of Engineer had not recognize the local uni graduate Engineer few years ago, this is due to the local uni tried to change 4 years system to 3 years system. Later due to Board of Engineer's action the local uni change their mind. Government tried to experiment on the education system, and the result is only student suffer

Hmm.. Agree with dk actually.. You cannot blame the engineers only as the design is not done by one person, and usually those design are good enuff.. The most important thing is the construction part of the project. Use bad material (read : cheap ones) and so on and so forth. =)

An Indian, a Chinese and a Malay were in a terrible car accident. They were all brought to the same emergency room, but all of them died before they arrived. Just as they were about to put the toe tag on the Indian, he stirred and opened his eyes. Astonished, the doctors and nurses present, asked him what happened. "Well," said the Indian, "I remember the crash, and then there was a beautiful light, and then the Chinese and the Malay and I were standing at the gates of heaven. An Angel approached us and said that we were too young to die, and that for a donation of $50, we could return to earth. So, of course I pulled out my wallet and gave him the $50 and the next thing I knew I was back here." "That's amazing!" said one of the doctors. "But what happened to the other two?" "Last I saw them" replied the Indian, "the Chinese was bargaining over the price, and the Malay was waiting for the government to pay for his." :-)

We can bought over Lotus to help on producing superb car. We can higher Korean & Japanese Controction company to build another Twin Tower. Why do we need good quality enigneering student? As long as they can experiment eating Roti Canai in the space & doing Sky Diving at North Pole, we are already making the record. Malaysia Boleh. yeah yeah yeah tersangat bodoh. Especially those who plan this kind of useless activities.

I think it's also partly caused by the heavy subsidies for education. The students take it for granted that they don't need to pay alot for their education so they take it for granted that they'll always be able to go to school regardless of how poor their grades are. I live in Singapore and have Malaysian relatives and my grandmother thinks that my mother is purposely keeping money for herself instead of giving it to her. My grandma says that education is so cheap for my Malaysian cousins so how come my mother is giving so little money. My cousin graduated from a Uni in Penang. She did some environment course and is now a manufacturing supervisor in a factory. She always gives sketchy details of her job and her mother refuses to send her kids to overseas uni even though they have the money. Always saying that "malaysia uni so cheap, why go overseas?" In my opinion, they have a very narrow view of the world. They rarely come into contact with foreigners and mock my family for eating less meat than them. With people like that, how do you expect Malaysia to come up with students who can lift standards?

Liang Moi, you are so true on the under qualified so-called professional here in Malaysia. I won.t believed it if has not happened to my cousin brother when he has a concussion on his forehead and was admitted. Attended by a bumi doctor and was assured by him my cousin don need any surgery and he will be fine with some medication. My cousin was having high fever a 2 days and luckily an overseas doctor came for visitation purpose bumped into my uncle and my uncle grab whole of him and finally my cousin went through the life threatening moment and recover. If that foreign doctor was not there, I think my cousin would have been passed away 25 years ago. So our family would never take a risk on certain ppl especially on the life threatening matters. You may stereotype me but I only live once! To add on to what Liang Moi wrote, I cant believed every year we produced so many straight As students and is getting more and more that makes SPM and STPM no longer valuable! If Malaysians really became smarter then the exam's level so go up to maintain the standard. Instead we have full of graduates but no job! This is a big problem. U graduates are thinking where all the jobs gone where in actual fact, there has been no major foreign investors in the country since 9/11 and those already in are planning to go out. Foreign investors studied our country on overall n capabilities and how qualified Malaysian are before investing in our country. Majority of HQs and AP - Regional HQs with high profile and salary are being set up in Spore or HKG. Does that tell us something?

Basically theres no future at all for any bumiputera graduates from any malaysian university. Not just from the engineering faculty. As most of them studied in malay language most of them just dont read books by professionals and think out of the box. But the malaysian government is trying to create more vacancies in the civil service just for them. If you are a bumiputera and graduated from any malaysian university do not be worry. The umno government will create some jobs and use the tax payers money to pay you. I am one of the tax payers.
